Explore Protaras Cyprus

As far as attractions go, the area of Protaras Cyprus is the attraction in itself. It is a tourist hotspot due to the golden sand and clear safe waters of its beaches, its luxury hotels and brilliant facilities.

It’s a great place for families as there are several Luna parks and Ayia Napa is only a short bus ride away. The buses run until about 10pm, and for teenagers and young people, I would highly recommend staying in this area for the beaches in daytime and travelling from here to Ayia Napa at night.

There are many good restaurants in the area offering a wide range of food from authentic Cypriot cuisine to Chinese and Italian. There is also a McDonald’s here which is one of the only places in the world to serve the ‘Greek Mac’- the burger brought out to celebrate the releases of the film ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’. Opposite the McDonald's you can discover some of the best steak and peppercorn sauce on the island!

The area is full of food and souvenir shops, cash points and there are several bars and karaoke pubs. This resort is lively and fun, but not really the place for those wanting to see the real, authentic Cyprus.

Ayios Elias Church

For those wanting a bit of culture in the area, the church of Ayios Elias is definitely worth a visit. The church sits on a hill 100 metres high and there are hundreds of steps to reach it.

One tip is to climb the steps at night, when it has cooled down a bit and the church is beautifully lit up. Alternatively try the steps in early evening, it is still just cool enough and this way you won’t miss out on the stunning views from the top.
