Fig Tree Bay
If you only visit one beach in Protaras make it this one! It is a very long beautiful beach of hot, soft golden sand, and if you plan to walk the length of it I suggest walking in the sea so that you don’t burn your feet! The true Fig Tree Bay is at one end of the stretch, opposite a little island. It is worth walking to this part of the beach if you are at the other end because it has the clearest water and is usually a bit quieter. You can swim to the little island opposite as it not far, but I only recommend this if you are a very good swimmer as the current can get very strong. Also take beach shoes if you plan to walk on the island as the surface is rough. The backdrop to the beach is a stretch of luxury hotels, so as you would imagine the beach offers excellent facilities and watersports. In fact tourism in Protaras is so popular mainly because of this beach. Fig Tree Bay can get very crowded, and it is worth coming early to secure sunbeds. Although it is close to Ayia Napa and a tourist area, the crowd is very varied. The beach is named after a lone fig tree not far from the beach. According to Cypriot legend, it was brought there by Arab invaders hundreds of years ago.
Louma Beach
Just north of the main Protaras area is this pretty beach. As you would expect from Protaras beaches, the water is stunningly clear and calm and it is set by white fine-grain sand. If you want to get out the sun, you will find a group of trees at the back of the beach to relax under.
Green Bay
This is the first beach you will pass on the way to Protaras from Ayia Napa. There are no signposts so it is a bit hard to find, but on the plus side it means there are few crowds unlike many of the beaches in this area.
