Cyprus Nightlife

Cyprus nightlife has become quite famous over the past decade, and nowhere more so than in the resort of Ayia Napa! It’s hard to imagine that less than 25 years ago this buzzing party town was a sleepy fishing village!

Of course, you will find a selection of bars and clubs in other regions too, such as Rumours Bar in Limassol (a good place to hang out with locals), and at the various bars in Protaras (although a lot of places in this area are also family based and have for example karaoke).

North Cyprus nightlife is also quite developed and lively during summer, although it's pretty dead in the winter. A lot of good clubs in North Cyprus are located in hotels and the beachside clubs like Club Acapulco are definitely worth visiting. One of the best place in North Cyprus to party with both locals and tourists is probably Lion Gardens in Famagusta which is open all year long.

Another of our favourites is Escape Club located at the Escape Beach Club Resort in Kyrenia. They hold club nights every Friday and Saturday with free entry. There is also a beach party held on Sundays. The music is a mix of R&B, garage, Turkish music and pop.

But if you want a really memorable night in Cyprus, head to Ayia Napa! The main square hosts a range of clubs and bars to suit all music tastes from hip hop, r’n’b and rock, to reggae and cheesy pop.

The best way to start your night in Ayia Napa is in one of the many bars around the square. They open at around 10pm, and you will come across many promoters who will offer you free or half price entry to various clubs if you buy a shot in one of the bars for a couple of Euros. The shots are often quite watered down but come in a wide choice of flavours!

If you are not much of a drinker don’t worry! Most clubs have quite reasonable entry prices and are much cheaper than other clubbing resorts like Ibiza. The clubs themselves open at around 1.30am and stay open until 4pm. Then it is time to head down to the chilled out after party at River Reggae until 7am!

Important things to know about Cyprus Nightlife:

• The minimum drinking age in Cyprus is 18.

• There are several cab firms operating around Ayia Napa square, and these are safe to use to get back to your hotel. They operate all night in summer and are quite cheap.

• It is advisable to only drink from bottles in the bars and clubs.

• The Cypriot police are extremely strict on drug use and have a zero tolerance policy. If you are caught in possession of or using drugs you will be deported after paying a heavy fine or even serving a prison sentence
